President and Chief Operating Officer
At an early age, A.C. Gallo was taught to appreciate food and the art of food presentation. His parents owned a top-rated restaurant and his grandparents owned a fruit stand in the Bronx and later started a small Italian grocery. Gallo began stocking shelves at Bread & Circus when it was just one small specialty foods store with only 10 employees. He left the company after more than 15 years of work, but returned to Bread & Circus after it was acquired by Whole Foods Market in 1992. He quickly moved into regional leadership as the Northeast Region’s vice president and then, in 1996, as regional president.
Gallo is committed to sustainable agriculture and to fostering the growth of food in its purest state. As president and COO, he is deeply involved in product sourcing and quality standards initiatives, including the company’s animal welfare standards, sustainable seafood rating system and commitment to full GMO transparency. He has been in his current role since 2010.
