Global Leader, Sustainable Engineering and Energy Management
Kathy Loftus coordinates sustainability and leads engineering, green building, and facilities management (including energy management and strategic energy procurement) for Whole Foods Market. She has been in this role for ten years. She was a founding Steering Committee member for the U.S. DOE’s Better Buildings Alliance a founding member of EPA’s Green Chill Program.
In addition to roles as Director of Business Development for a start-up energy technology firm and roles at an electric utility company, Kathy also spent eight years as Director of Energy & Environmental Management for Shaw's Supermarkets and was a past chairperson of FMI’s Energy & Technical Services Committee. She was a participant on the 2005 New England Roundtable on Federal Renewable Energy Policy, participated on the State Energy Efficiency Action Network’s Utility Motivation Working Group and served as an advisor for the Grocery sector for the USGBC’s LEED program. She also served eight years on the Advisory Committee of the Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust and Large Scale Retail Development Solar, Energy Efficiency & Smart Buildings Committees.
She holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. She is part of her town’s Renewable Energy Commission, a member of the Board of the Green Building Initiative (Green Globes Certification for Commercial Buildings), a Board member of Future of American Energy, and a Board member for City Sprouts. She is also a member of WPI’s Mechanical Engineering External Advisory Board, WPI’s’ Center for Sustainability in Business Advisory Board and Massachusetts Maritime Academy’s Engineering Advisory Council. She is a former Chair of the Board of Directors of Clean Air-Cool Planet and Board member of Waste Cap of Massachusetts.
