EMERYVILLE, Calif. (Sept. 13, 2013) – Starting Sept. 25, stores in Whole Foods Market’s Northern California and Reno region (NorCal) will offer some Whole Foods Market Kitchen™ selections made with Just Mayo, the new vegan mayonnaise-style product made with non-GMO canola oil from Hampton Creek Foods.
Whole Foods Market stores in NorCal will use Just Mayo as the condiment base for vegan chick’n salads as well as composed salads served on the salad bar. Customers will also be able to find Just Mayo on sandwich bars in regular and chipotle flavors (available flavors may vary by store). Some stores may also offer pints or half pints of Just Mayo for sale in the Whole Foods Market Kitchen for customers that want to cook with it at home.
Stores will also continue to use traditional mayonnaise for non-vegan salads and dishes.
“Hampton Creek’s Just Mayo is one of the most innovative, environmentally-minded, and delicious products we’ve brought to the Whole Foods Market Kitchen,” said Jimmy Monaco, Prepared Foods coordinator for Whole Foods Market’s Northern California region. “We’ve already seen great interest in it from customers, and we believe it will appeal to vegan shoppers as well as those who choose to eat eggs and egg-based products.”
Currently, Whole Foods Market’s partnership with Hampton Creek Foods is limited to using and offering Just Mayo in the Prepared Foods department region-wide. The regional purchasing team is evaluating further incorporation of Hampton Creek Foods’ other brands still in development, including “Eat the Dough” cookie dough, “Beyond Eggs” baking alternative and “Just Scramble” scrambled egg alternative.
Whole Foods Market operates 38 stores in NorCal, from Monterey to Sacramento and Reno, NV.
