NEW YORK (July 17, 2020) On Friday, July 17, Whole Foods Market opened its 14th location in New York City. The 60,245 square-foot store in Manhattan, located at 450 W. 33rd St., is part of the 5.4 million-square-foot Hudson Yards development. Shoppers can enter the plaza at Manhattan West on Ninth Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets, or enter the store directly on the corner of 31st Street and 10th Avenue. Special features of the new Manhattan West store include:

  • A variety of Friends of Whole Foods Market venues with options available for takeout, including: vegan Mexican cuisine from Jajaja, matcha lattes from Matchaful, coffee from Café Grumpy and plant-based ice cream from Sunscoop.
  • Produce department offering a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, with selections from more than 15 local growers, including mint and chives from Square Roots, salad kits from Gotham Greens and grown-in-store mushrooms from Smallhold.
  • Full-service butcher offering made-in-house sausages and dry-aged beef, as well as locally sourced options, including beef from Simply Grazin’ and sausage from The Meat Hook.
  • Seafood counter featuring a variety of made-in-house offerings—including Everything Bagel seasoned Atlantic salmon, lobster rolls and lox sandwiches—as well as selections from local producers, such as seafood cakes from Lagniappe Foods and jumbo lump crab cakes from Star of the Sea.
  • Specialty foods section with ready-to-eat cheese boards as well as a selection of more than 50 local cheeses overseen by an in-store American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional who can offer expertise and recommendations for any request or occasion. The department also features a variety of pairings, like local jams from Trade Street Jam and crackers from Hungry Bird Eats.
  • Extensive selection of more than 400 beers, including 150 craft beers from local producers like Three’s Brewing. The department also features Brewery Fresh Bar, which serves limited release beers, local craft brews, wine, kombucha and ciders, all in cans.
  • Bakery department featuring an expansive selection of freshly baked breads, cookies, muffins and a variety of cakes like bundt, coffee and pound cake as well as cheesecakes, including a specialty sponge cake using flavors of a Manhattan cocktail. The department also offers a range of items for special diets from local suppliers like Ocka Treats, Abe’s Muffins and Mo’Pweeze Bakery.
  • Prepared foods section offering a large selection of grab-and-go products including sushi, organic rotisserie chickens, salads, soups, stir fry and pizza. Many of the dishes in the department feature a unique variety of basil called Blue Spice from Farm One, a hydroponic growing system in the store itself.
  • A cocktail bar called West Side Corner currently offering signature cocktails to-go like Super Fruit Sangria and Green House Margaritas. Cocktails are paired with cheeseboards featuring local suppliers like Beecher’s and Crown Finish Caves cheeses, chili pepper jam from BRINS and rosemary crackers from Top Seedz, all currently available for takeout only.
  • Beauty and body care section featuring various products from local suppliers like Brooklyn Press, Shea Radiance and LUX Naturals.
  • A convenience market located on street level to provide customers a quick shopping experience without the need to navigate the full store, offering grab and go meal and snack options, baked goods, desserts and cold beverages.
  • More than 500 products throughout the store from about 200 local suppliers, many of which are new to Whole Foods Market or are recipients of Whole Foods Market’s Local Producer Loan Program, which provides low-interest loans to local producers to help grow their businesses.

All food at Whole Foods Market must meet the company’s rigorous quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners, as well as over 100 colors, flavors and preservatives commonly found in food. In addition, all beauty and body care products must meet the company’s body care standards, which ban more than 100 commonly used ingredients, including phthalates, parabens and microbeads.
