Senior Healthy Eating and Wellness Educator
Dr. Akua Woolbright came to Whole Foods Market in April 2009 from Washington, D.C., where she most recently worked as a public health nutritionist, more specifically as the Breastfeeding Program Coordinator at the D.C. Women, Infants and Children State Agency in the D.C. Department of Health. Prior to her role in WIC, Akua received her PhD in Nutritional Sciences from Howard University in 2007.
Throughout her professional career, Akua has played a number of roles that focus on health education including: a research fellow working on international nutrition issues and malnutrition at the National Science Foundation Alliances for Graduate Education and the Professoriate; the HIV Nutrition Program Manager at Howard University Hospital C.A.R.E.S program; a teacher of weight loss and nutrition classes for morbidly obese patients at Healing Our Village—a company that provides health education to under-served members of the population – and a cooking instructor at The Cancer Project.
Akua’s primary roles on the Global Healthy Eating Team include providing ongoing support to the Total Immersion program participants and as the team’s healthy eating communication liaison and facilitator to regional healthy eating specialists, trainers and the Team Member Services coordinators throughout the Company's 12 regions.
