Katy Green is a Produce Field Inspector for Whole Foods Market, based out of Southern California. She joined Whole Foods Market almost a decade ago as a cut fruit team member at the Mason, Ohio store. Katy has been the Produce Field Inspector since 2014 and oversees the quality of the company’s Whole Trade program. She meets with farmers in various growing regions to ensure quality and supply. Her commodity specialty areas include table grapes, melons, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, dates, squash, row crops, and cut flowers – but she is enthusiastic and knowledgeable on all types of produce! Prior, she was a wrangler on a horse ranch in the Teton National Park and sold fine and rare wine in Chicago. She is a graduate of Purdue University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Horticulture Production and Marketing and minored in Plant Sciences and French. During her time at Purdue, she worked for the Indiana Wine Grape Council; was a field laborer in a vineyard in Bordeaux, France; and did vine maintenance in both of Purdue’s research vineyards for Dr. Bruce Bordelon, professor of Viticulture. Katy is an avid foodie and enjoys hiking, backpacking, traveling, horseback riding, yoga, rock climbing, and reading about the future of agriculture.
