DALLAS (July 21, 2023) – Whole Foods Market has donated a new refrigerated van to local nonprofit organization Minnie’s Food Pantry to support picking up fresh food and redistributing to those in need. Thursday, both Minnie’s Food Pantry staff and Whole Foods Market team members at the Cityline store celebrated by filling the van to the brim with donated products, bound for community members experiencing food insecurity.
“We’re so thrilled to expand our partnership with Minnie’s Food Pantry and further support their food rescue efforts to nourish the North Dallas community,” said Lauren Talley, Community Giving & Engagement Sr. Specialist for Whole Foods Market. “Not only will this van help transport more rescued food to neighbors in need, but it will also help reduce food waste and do so much good to create long-term impact nourishing the community.”
“From hosting an in-store fundraiser 10 years ago to now picking up from three Whole Foods locations each week, Minnie’s Food Pantry takes great joy in looking back at how our partnership with Whole Foods Market has flourished,” said Cheryl Jackson, Founder of Minnie’s Food Pantry. “This year, we have been so fortunate to be gifted a brand-new vehicle with refrigeration capabilities through the Whole Foods Market Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program which has already proven instrumental in allowing Minnie’s to fulfill our mission and continue providing healthy and perishable foods such as produce, dairy and meats to the tens-of-thousands of families that we serve each year!”
Whole Foods Market launched Nourishing Our Neighborhoods in September 2020 and has donated 37 refrigerated vans to food rescue partners to transport food to communities across the U.S. and Canada. These food rescue partners participate in the company’s Grocery Rescue Program – picking up food from their stores weekly and redistributing it to feed neighbors fresh, high-quality food as quickly as possible.
Minnie’s Food Pantry is a leading 501c3 nonprofit organization located in Plano, Texas, with a mission to provide healthy meals, educational resources and basic life necessities to families in need. Founded on April 1, 2008, MFP has since distributed over 25 million meals in the fight against hunger and continues to provide perishable and non-perishable goods to those who need it, regardless of zip code.
