South Windsor, Conn. (Jan. 17, 2024) – Whole Foods Market opened its new 43,406-square-foot store today at 8 a.m. EST, located in The Shops at Evergreen Walk (800 Evergreen Way) in South Windsor, Conn.
As the retailer’s fifth location in the greater Hartford area, the new store’s design includes rich tile textures and a warm neutral color palette with pops of jewel tones, emerald green and burnt orange, connecting to the natural landscape that surrounds the area. The new location’s product assortment features more than 1,000-local items from New England, sourced with the help of Holly Long, Principal Local Forager for Whole Foods Market.
“We are thrilled to open our doors in South Windsor,” said Chad Radl, Store Team Leader for Whole Foods Market. “Through our knowledgeable team members, high quality standards and hand-picked selection of local-to-New England-products, we look forward to serving this wonderful community.”
During the opening day ceremonies, Whole Foods Market announced that local supplier One Mighty Mill is the newest recipient of the Local Producer Loan Program (LPLP), receiving a $150,000 low-interest loan from the retailer to add more equipment and automation to their stone-milling process and support their growth into more Whole Foods Market locations. Through LPLP, Whole Foods Market lends money to small-scale, local or emerging producers to help them grow their businesses. To date, the retailer has provided 390 loans, representing roughly $29 million in capital for recipients.
Additionally on opening morning, Whole Foods Market donated a refrigerated van to food rescue organization Gifts of Love through its Nourishing Our Neighborhoods program. Launched by the grocer in 2020, the program aims to enhance the operational capabilities of local food rescue organizations, enabling them to efficiently transport food from surplus locations to areas with the greatest need. Whole Foods Market has also made donations to the South Windsor Food and Fuel Bank, South Windsor Community Foundation and South Windsor Community Gardens on Avery and Deming Streets.
