AUSTIN, Texas (May 7, 2013) – Dark Rye, an online magazine from Whole Foods Market, won best Group Food Blog at the James Beard Foundation’s Book, Broadcast & Journalism Awards in New York City on May 3. Other nominees in the category were Eater National and Grubstreet New York.

The award was accepted on behalf of Dark Rye by Vadan Less, senior director of video content, and Jacob Ellenberg, executive producer.

The online magazine uses multimedia storytelling and accessible projects to inspire readers to pursue their dreams while fostering a more creative world. From Fäviken restaurant in Sweden to Balcones Distillery in Waco, Texas, Dark Rye spotlights makers in communities across the world.

Dark Rye also received a nomination from James Beard for Video Webcast, On Location for its series “The Curious Adventures of Kirk Lombard” from executive producer Kelly Le Castre.

This is the first James Beard nomination and win for Dark Rye, which launched in March 2012.
