WHAT: Whole Foods Market Boca Raton will donate 5% of one day’s net sales to Animal Aid Inc. a local, no-kill animal shelter and adoption center in Boca Raton. Animal Aid Inc is a small nonprofit that has adopted out many dogs and cats to local residents, customers, and Whole Foods Market team members. Customers and local residents are encouraged to shop for the cause and attend a variety of educational and entertaining events such as a Mini Pet Fair, Canine Cooking Class, Yappy Hour, and Doggy Fashion Show.
WHY: The shelter takes in about 100 animals each month, in addition spaying and neutering about 200 a month. Many of the animals they take in would have been euthanized, but the center rehabilitates them, and puts them in a loving home. The 5% day recipient was chosen by request of a customer and adoptive parent of a dog from Animal Aid. Customers are encouraged to shop on this day to provide funds to assist the organization in their purchase of a new mobile animal clinic van and to continue to provide care and rehabilitation to the animals they save. Animal Aid Inc. recently lost their mobile clinic in a fire resulting in a total loss. It took them a year to raise money to purchase the van which traveled around Palm Beach County and Broward to provide low cost spay and neuter, and veterinary care to local low income neighbohoods that could not regularly afford it.
