Chicago (May 6, 2014) – Whole Foods Market (Nasdaq: WFM), the world’s leading natural and organic foods supermarket, confirmed today a new location for downtown Indianapolis. The 40,000 square foot store will be located at the corner of North Alabama Street and East Market Street in the Market Square Tower. This will be the third Whole Foods Market in the Indianapolis area.

“With this new centrally located store in Indiana’s capital, Whole Foods Market will increase access to healthy and organic options to downtown residents and workers,” says Michael Bashaw, Whole Foods Market Midwest Regional President. “Located just down the street of the historic Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Monument, this new store will allow us to share our passion for food with the vibrant community in and around the Market East District.”

From the beginning, Whole Foods Market has been an innovator, transforming food shopping from a chore into a dynamic experience that enlivens the senses and the new Indianapolis store will be no different.

This new location will offer downtown residents and workers alike, fresh, organic fruits and vegetables, specialty items, high-quality meats and poultry, everyday pantry staples and sustainable seafood –appealing to the health conscious as well as devoted food enthusiasts. From the scratch bakery, shoppers will have a vast array of delicious breads and pastries, made fresh daily, to choose from.  The coffee bar will give the needed java jolt for busy shoppers. For kids of all ages, the gelato station will have the creamy, Italian treat by the scoop or by the pint. Downtown residents and workers will delight in the extensive prepared food options for lunch as well as the quick-and-savory meals for dinner.

“In addition to the pizza, sushi and hot bar offerings, this Whole Foods Market will have a selection of smoked meat and seafood as well as an enhanced specialty cheese department,” adds Bashaw.

Whole Foods Market will continue its mission in supporting sustainable agriculture and the environment by offering natural and organic foods, free of artificial flavors, colors, sweeteners, preservatives and hydrogenated fats. The new store will provide customers with a neighborhood butcher, fishmonger, baker and a team of chefs creating freshly prepared take-out meals – all under one roof.

Whole Foods Market will continue its tradition of community commitment in the thriving Indianapolis area. Part of Whole Foods Market’s Core Values, community support is something that this store, like all Whole Foods Market locations, will exhibit during everyday business. Quarterly Community Support Days, where 5 percent of one day’s sales are donated to a local nonprofit organization, are among the most successful programs. Other community support programs include One Dime at a Time, where customers can opt to have their 10-cent bag refund donated to a nonprofit organization, as well as daily donations to local food banks.

Whole Foods Market has two other locations in the Indianapolis area: 1300 East 86th Street in Indianapolis and 14598 Clay Terrace Boulevard in Carmel.
