Whole Foods Market, the world's leading organic and natural foods supermarket, today announced its flagship store in London is on schedule to open early June 2007. The company, which currently operates six Fresh & Wild stores in the UK, will open the new 80,000sq ft store in High Street Kensington in the building previously occupied by Barker?s department store.

“The opening of Whole Foods Market in London is a milestone for the company. We?re bringing together the collective creativity of our entire company, inspiration from around the globe, and the natural and exotic flavours from the UK and around the world,” said Rick Bonin, Regional Vice President, UK for Whole Foods Market.

Whole Foods Market is committed to stringent quality standards and only sells foods free of artificial flavours, colours, sweeteners, preservatives, and hydrogenated fats. The new store will be a truly exciting place to shop, eat, meet friends, and enjoy naturally delicious food.

The store has remained on schedule throughout the renovation process since the landmark building in Kensington was handed over to the grocer in Spring 2006. The company estimated a late spring opening and earmarked June as its opening date last year.

Rick Bonin commented: “We are thrilled with the efficiency and professionalism of our crews and partners on the project and we applaud their hard work. The next few months see an exciting phase of the development and we?re looking forward to opening the finished store. Recruitment for the new store is going well. We are excited to be hiring passionate team members who are committed to providing outstanding service while offering the most exciting and fresh foods available.”Whole Foods Market will feature the freshest and finest natural and organic offerings in every area of the store, with a focus on procuring foods from local growers, food artisans and manufacturers. And, just as the company has done with its North American locations for the past 27 years, Whole Foods Market will be an active member of the local community; sponsoring events, donating food and money to local causes, providing volunteer opportunities for Team Members, and becoming a neighbourhood gathering place.
