CINCINNATI, Ohio (August 28, 2019) Whole Foods Market in Kenwood opens its doors to the public at 9 a.m. on Aug. 29. Located at 5901 E Galbraith Road, the new 38,000 square-foot store is celebrating the grand opening with complimentary coffee from Deeper Roots Coffee, as well as pastries and music before the store opens. Additionally, the first 200 customers will receive a custom Whole Foods Market Kenwood reusable canvas tote bag and a savings card with a mystery value ranging between $5 and $100.

“We’re thrilled to expand our presence in the Cincinnati area” said Eric Knapke, Store Team Leader. “With the opening of our Kenwood store, we’ll be able to provide the community with access to a greater selection of fresh, healthy and innovative products, including hundreds from local businesses.”

Offering a selection of locally-sourced options, grab-and-go prepared foods and natural and organic grocery items, all food at Whole Foods Market must meet the company’s rigorous quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup and artificial sweeteners. In addition, all beauty and body care products must meet the company’s body care standards, which ban animal testing and more than 100 commonly used ingredients.

Special features of the store include:

  • Fresh produce department featuring seasonal fruits and vegetables from regional growers such as Great River Organics and self-serve, fresh squeezed orange juice
  • Floral section offering seasonal varieties from regional growers including Little Miami Flower Company
  • Bakery department offering an array of fresh baked bread, self-serve cakes and grab-and-go mini desserts decorated by an in-store decorator; features selections for special diets, a self-serve bread slicer and offerings from local suppliers such as Maui Mae’s, Moondance Desserts and Grateful Grahams
  • Full-service butcher department with sausages made in-house and fresh meat cuts, including options from local suppliers such as McDowell Farms and the Ohio Beef Cooperative
  • Seafood department featuring fresh seafood and a large selection of packaged and frozen fish, including options for making sushi at home
  • Specialty foods section featuring locally-sourced pasta and coffee, a self-serve olive and antipasti bar and more than 200 cheeses overseen by an in-store American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional, including from local suppliers such as Cincinnati-based My Artisano
  • Hot and cold food bars offering seasonal dishes, including vegan and organic options, a salad bar, soup wells, a skillet bar with finger foods, self-serve Detroit-style pan pizza and stations for charcuterie, Genji sushi and rotisserie chickens
  • Bulk section with over 100 items, including mix and match candy
  • Grocery department featuring frozen vegetable meal starters like cauliflower fried rice, as well as products from local suppliers including Cincinnati-based Hen Of The Woods’ kettle chips and Graeter’s ice cream, Lockland-based Fab Ferments kombucha and Hamilton-based Don Popp’s honey

To celebrate joining the community, five percent of the store’s net sales on Thursday, September 5 will benefit Madeira Schools Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the local school system by providing students with unique opportunities and experiences to enhance their education.

Whole Foods Market Kenwood will employ approximately 100 full and part-time team members. Following the grand opening, the store will be open from 8 a.m. – 9 p.m. daily.

Whole Foods Market has 11 additional stores in Ohio, with the Kenwood location joining Whole Foods Market’s Mason and Hyde Park stores in serving the Cincinnati area.
