Brookline, Mass., (April 11, 2013) – Whole Foods Market, the world’s leading natural and organic supermarket and America’s first national certified organic grocer, opened the doors of the newest location, in Brookline, today.

Located in a 16,000 square foot building at 1028 Beacon Street in Brookline, the new store will employ 75 full and part time team members. “It’s a quintessential neighborhood market,” says Laura Derba, Regional President, “complete with all the departments for customers to do a full shop.”

Along with the grocery, produce, meat, seafood, specialty, bakery and Whole Body departments, Whole Foods Market Brookline offers a full service coffee, juice and smoothie bar, made-to-order sandwiches and burritos, and calzones and pizza by the slice or whole.  Additional prepared foods offerings include a full charcuterie, pressed Panini station, made in-store rotisserie chickens, a cold salad bar and hot food bar that will feature ready-to-eat breakfast, lunch and dinner options and hot soup.

“This Whole Foods Market location is the perfect match for this neighborhood,” says Store Team Leader Shaun Hunt. “We’ve designed a store that offers a complete grocery shopping experience with a strong emphasis on convenience. We are so excited to become a part of our neighbors’ every day routines.”

Whole Foods Market Brookline meets the unique shopping needs of the urban setting with customers largely traveling on foot, multiple times each week. Stores catering to similar commuting trends in comparable neighborhoods have a proven track record of satisfying and delighting customers; a core value for Whole Foods Market.

In its full renovation of the existing space, Whole Foods Market sought to repurpose as much equipment as possible, in alignment with their core value of caring for the environment.    The store will be recycling and composting waste and offering recycling receptacles for customers to dispose of recyclable items, including #5 plastic, used paper grocery bags, newspaper, cardboard, and beverage bottles.

To mark this grand opening in Brookline and in keeping with their commitment to healthy eating education, Whole Foods Market is proud to partner with the Whole Kids Foundation to donate a salad bar to the Edith C. Baker K-8 School.

“We are so excited to have this opportunity to put a salad bar in the Baker school,” says Chef Alden Cadwell, Director of Food Service for the Public Schools of Brookline. “It is a great way to educate our students about incorporating fresh vegetables and fruit into their diets.  We're thrilled that Whole Foods Market has enabled this for us and we look forward to the continued partnership.”

“Caring for the communities we serve is crucial to the mission of Whole Foods Market,” says Hunt. “We are proud to be joining Brookline as true community partners.”
