Whole Foods Market is helping shoppers to not only replenish their pantries — but the Los Angeles River as well — with an upcoming Community Support Day scheduled on Wednesday, April 3, 2013. On this day, five stores in the Los Angeles area will donate five percent of all sales to Friends of the Los Angeles River (FoLAR) to support the group’s important work to protect and restore the natural and historic heritage of the Los Angeles River and its riparian habitat.
The following Whole Foods Market stores will be participating in the upcoming Community Support Day with FoLAR information booths at each location:
- Whole Foods Market Arroyo
465 S. Arroyo Parkway, Pasadena, CA 91105
- Whole Foods Market 3rd and Fairfax
6350 W. 3rd St., Los Angeles, CA 90036
- Whole Foods Market Glendale
331 N. Glendale Ave., Glendale, CA 91206
- Whole Foods Market Sherman Oaks
12905 Riverside Drive, Sherman Oaks, CA 91423
- Whole Foods Market Sherman Oaks West
4520 N. Sepulveda Blvd., Sherman Oaks, CA 91403
“This generous donation will support our important volunteer stewardship efforts, bringing thousands of people to the river at 15 locations and removing more than 20 tons of trash from the watershed,” said Lewis MacAdams, president of Friends of the Los Angeles River. “We thank Whole Foods Market for their support and urge other companies to follow their example.”
As part of its commitment to supporting local causes in the communities in which it works, Whole Foods Market stores nationwide hold Community Support Days several times a year and donate five percent of that day’s net sales to a local nonprofit or educational organization.
In conjunction with Earth Month, Whole Foods Market employees will also be volunteering at FoLAR’s upcoming annual signature event, La Gran Limpieza: The Great Los Angeles River Cleanup on May 18, 2013.
“As a company we are committed to affecting change – not only in how our shoppers look at food – but in the communities in which they live, work and play,” said Patrick Bradley, regional president for Whole Foods Market’s Southern Pacific region. “The Los Angeles River flows through each of the cities in which our participating stores are located. We are thrilled to be able to support the Friends of the Los Angeles in their quest to protect and restore the river through their upcoming cleanup event.”
The Los Angeles River spans more than 50 miles and flows through 14 cities from the west end of the San Fernando Valley to the ocean in Long Beach. Through inclusive planning, education and wise stewardship, FoLAR seeks to revitalize this river greenway to become a place where the community can swim, fish, boat and bike.
