The non-profit North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) was selected by Whole Foods Market Wexford to partner and receive a $10,000 donation sponsoring the growth and sustainability of the organization’s garden.  Through this partnership, the NHCO will receive support for programs, gardens and projects.  NHCO is an organization that addresses the needs of people in crisis, hardship and poverty. NHCO’s vision is that Northern Allegheny County is a sharing community where no one is cold, hungry or alone. NHCO was incorporated in 1987 as an organization of People Helping People and their parent organization is St. Paul’s United Methodist Church.

As one of the company’s core values is to support its communities, Whole Foods Market Wexford team has tied in many store events to further support NHCO.  From August 13 – 19, the store will host a canned goods drive where customers can donate non-perishable goods for the organization’s food bank.  Additionally, the store will host NHCO at a tomato tasting event – Saturday August 18 from 12 – 2pm.  Completing the partnership will be various volunteer days where Whole Foods Market team members will aid in harvesting, fundraising events as well as support the organizations overall platform in store with special promotions.

Through the duration of partnership, Whole Foods Market hopes to support the NHCO with future volunteer projects, food security, community gardening, nutrition and horticultural education.   Whole Foods Market will help to advance the NHCO’s overall mission and outreach by inspiring people of all ages!

In 2010-11, NHCO assisted 5,760 families in need toward stability and self-sufficiency by providing $1,927,576 in funds, goods and services as well as information, support and advocacy. This assistance was given because 1,385 volunteers – including 257 youth – gave 42,410 hours of their time and talent at NHCO to assist their neighbors in need.
