(Plymouth Meeting, PA– January 6, 2010) – Whole Foods Market (NASDAQ: WFMI), the world’s leading natural and organic foods supermarket and America’s first national certified organic grocer, will open its doors in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 10:00 am. The new, 45,000-square-foot store, located at Plymouth Meeting Mall, 500 W. Germantown Pike, is the Company’s seventh store in the Philadelphia market, and will open in time to serve area shoppers in the New Year.

Designed and built with the environment in mind, the store features display and merchandising units that are developed using everything from reclaimed hardwoods to recycled-content tiles to repurposed factory tables, while the décor takes inspirational queues from the town’s colonial beginnings. The new store will offer a host of exciting options and specialty departments, but unique to the Plymouth Meeting location will be the Cold Point Pub, a 28-seat in-store pub featuring local beers and savory snacks.  Six beers, rotated regularly, will be featured on tap and customers can opt to fill reusable half- gallon glass Growlers to take some local flavor home.  Shoppers looking to dine al fresco will be able to take their meals upstairs to the store’s seasonally open, spacious outdoor roof deck, which will offer ample seating.

“We're excited to bring residents of the greater Plymouth Meeting area together to taste, explore and experience our wide selection of delicious and fresh foods,” said David Pinkney, Store Team Leader for the new Whole Foods Market.  “In addition to offering our customers convenient, one-stop shopping experiences with many enticing, high-quality options, we also make sure to provide the local community with access to fun and educational programming to help people live and eat better.”

Additional store offerings include an extensive produce section with seasonal offerings, including locally grown fruits and vegetables.  In line with Whole Foods Market’s commitment to strict animal-welfare quality standards, the meat department provides shoppers with the highest quality meat free of antibiotics and added hormones, while the seafood department will showcase an extensive array of the freshest seafood available. The indulgent bakery department will offer customers baked goods for all entertaining and dining needs, including fresh artisan breads, muffins, scones, pies and a variety of gluten-free options.   The store’s prepared foods section will provide a wide variety of everyday favorites for meals on-the-go, including hot soups, roast chickens, house-made paninis, sushi and an assortment of hot and cold bar options that showcase a collection of raw, vegan and no-oil choices.

Starting on January 4th and leading up to the opening, Whole Foods Market will be holding “Mystery Card” giveaways where Whole Foods Market Team Members will visit sites around the community including the Conshohocken Health and Fitness Center and the Upper Merion Mother’s Club to hand out cards worth up to $100 in groceries.  Team members will also be giving out 400 bags of groceries from the store’s Community Room on select dates throughout January and February with all giveaway details communicated via Twitter and Facebook (@WFM_PlymouthMtg / https://www.facebook.com/pages/Plymouth-Meeting-PA/Whole-Foods-Market-Plymouth-Meeting-PA/168743081549).

To celebrate the grand opening, the new Plymouth Meeting store will host an array of free events all week including an opening day cook-out with Will Harris of White Oak Pastures Farm; Snack on a Hot Tin Roof, an evening hot chocolate reception on the store’s roof deck; a chili cook-off; and an opportunity to meet Dr. Joel Fuhrman, author of Eat to Live.
