Margaret Wittenberg, global vice president of Quality Standards at Whole Foods Market, was named by FORTUNE magazine and Food & Wine as one of the food-and-drink industry’s most innovative women.

According to FORTUNE, the women on the list were chosen based on their accomplishments in the past year, and for “permanently changing the way we eat, and how we think about food.”

Wittenberg, who joined Whole Foods Market in 1981 and is one of the company’s original team members, has led the development of Whole Foods Market’s legendary quality standards, from basics to the complex; including seafood sustainability, farm animal welfare, and sustainable and organic agriculture.
