Los Angeles (May 9, 2023) – Jason Buechel, Whole Foods Market CEO, recently participated in the Milken Institute Global Conference 2023, an event that brings together thought and industry leaders from across the spectrum to tackle some of the world’s most urgent challenges and realize its most exciting opportunities. In a panel discussion focused on investing in our food systems, Buechel discussed Whole Foods Market’s commitment to climate-smart initiatives through thoughtful sourcing and environmental stewardship.

Jason was joined by other industry leaders, including Ertharin Cousin, Founder and CEO of Food Systems for the Future, Dan Pathomvanich, CEO of NRF Public Land Limited and Gunhild A. Stordalen, Founder and Executive Chair of EAT, to discuss the collective impact that food actors can have to improve economic, health and environmental outcomes.

“Our purpose is to nourish people and the planet,” Buechel said. “At the highest level, our job is to help make sure that we are taking care of this planet that we’re all part of.”

“We believe it’s our responsibility to help support the [regenerative agriculture] movement, to help bring these products to our customers and help educate,” he said. “This is an area that we’re going to continue to find support not only for our suppliers in helping bring this movement forward, but by also helping to educate our customers on the importance of supporting this work and regenerative products.”

Buechel recently unveiled Growing with Purpose, Whole Foods Market’s 10-year vision to lead the company into the future, focused on enhancing the store experience, investing in Team Member growth, and expanding the company’s reach to serve customers in new ways.
